Ali Gül: From TRT to cinema characters
Explore Ali Gül’s theatre education in Ankara, work at TRT and Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu, and selected dubbing and advertising credits.
Education and early voice work in Ankara
Ali Gül studied theatre at Ankara University’s Faculty of Languages, History and Geography. He began voice work at TRT while still at university. Encountering theatre education and recording work during the same period brought two central parts of his professional life together early on. His biography can be followed through stage and microphone as accompanying practices rather than entirely separate chapters.
Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu and television
Gül worked for many years at Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu and also appeared as an actor in television productions. These parts of his career offer another perspective beyond the international actors associated with his dubbed voice. Theatre and television make it possible to distinguish his own character performances on stage or screen from the separate task of giving a Turkish voice to another performer.
Turkish voices for film and television characters
The Dithyrambos biography records Ali Gül’s Turkish-release voice work for actors including Robert De Niro, Mel Gibson, Eddie Murphy and Morgan Freeman. Listed characters also include Captain Barbossa and Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean, Gargamel in The Smurfs and Batiatus in Spartacus. Production and character details should be read together: voicing an actor in particular productions does not mean voicing every film in that actor’s career.
Advertising recordings and exploring the portfolio
The credit list also includes advertising work for Siemens, Neutrogena, Altınbaş, TEB and Huawei. Character dubbing and advertising narration should not be reduced to a single listening criterion. A scene and its dialogue shape one, while campaign text and duration shape the other. The voice samples connect biographical information with actual recordings and can help a project team describe what it needs more clearly.
